About us is very simple. First off let me say, I am not a doctor. But I do know what works for me and I am a firm believer if I can do it, for sure, you can do it. The war against diabetes is a daily fight. We will win this war.
For a number of years, starting in the 80's, I toured the world as pro-wrestler Dirty Dan Denton. This story is not only about me but about us. Over the years I spent a lot of time in gyms. I wrestled anywhere from 235-250 pounds. I lifted a lot of weight at the gym and loved doing cardio. My body was perfect for the continuos pounding you take in a wrestling ring and from all the tables and chairs I got hit with over the years.
After finishing up my wrestling career, I became a business professional. One day I went to the doctor for a routine check up. They thought my blood sugar was high so asked me to fast and come back the next day. Same result.
The doctor informed me that I had type-2 diabetes. That was weird I thought as I didn't have the typical symptoms. I wasn't dragging my butt, I felt as good as ever. Wow, talk about a wake up call.
Over the years I tried to manage it with pills. Finally it got to the point that I had to start insulin injections. I had seen my grandmother do it for years so it didn't bother me much. What did bother me was the 100 pounds of weight I gained when I started it.
After being good/bad for a number of years I have made a decision that I want to live a long life. A lot of guys I wrestled with ended up getting the same thing and some of those didn't turn out too good. A lot of well-known entertainers have also come down with it. Was it the lifestyle? Not sure.
Decided to create this page to start getting awareness for others. I want people to realize that this disease can be managed but it is important that it is managed. It is not just 'rasslers' that get this. It could be you or a loved one. Let's spread the word on this.
I am not a doctor. I know what works for me. I know how I have been losing weight and managing my sugar levels. I will share that with you. At the end of the day if I can encourage to become aware, then my job is done.
So how is this about us? Very simple, we are going to do this together!
Thanks for reading. . .Dirty Dan Denton
