Welcome to the Diabetes Army Wellness Newsletter. The real deal from a former pro wrestler who lives with type 2 diabetes. In an effort to reverse my diabetes I am using exercise and a keto diet. These are my adventures.

We are changing up the format a little this week. We will now jump right into diabetes and keto and leave the journey further down.

This week we talk about new weight wins, dia hacking, new crew member and more!

Volume 2 Number 8


It was a big week for my dia hacking. I am working hard to reduce my type 2 diabetes and I am very close to doing this.

One of the big things I have found in this journey of hacking myself, and learning about what works, is measuring. I believe we need to find out what foods drive up our glucose levels.

It used to be that I would just measure before a meal. Then I started testing an hour later and then two hours later.

If I am going to continue on my weight-loss journey, I need to see what is driving up my insulin and not do it again. I am breaking this down to the simplest things.

I have found that it is insulin that is that drives my weight up and stops me from dropping pounds. So in attacking diabetes, I want to reduce the amount of insulin my body is producing. To do this, I need to reduce my carbs and sugars.

Basically, my goal currently is to structure my diet to the point on not spiking insulin levels.

Last week I had some awesome luck with this. I have found a lot of great meals that are giving me low readings a couple of hours after.

What does this mean on my journey to reduce my diabetes? Well I have gone from about 600 units every two days down to 10-30 and sometimes even none.

Experiment with yourself. Measure often so you will know where you are at and what affects your body. We can’t change if we don’t know.

And always do this with your doctor.


Great keto week for me as well. I have been experimenting with meals that don’t spike my insulin levels. I have found that even though some meals are keto, they still drive up my blood sugar which means my body will produce more insulin and that plays havoc with weight loss.

With that said, I have been focused on finding keto meals that don’t spike me up.

I have had a couple of surprises in that regard. For example I get a meal delivered from Firehouse Subs to my office twice a week. It is a pastrami and corned beef sandwich in a bowl. I have taken out all the carbs in it to get it down to what I believe is about six net carbs.

I had this the other night and two hours later, with no insulin, my glucose reading was 108. That is absolutely amazing and is exactly why I am such a believer in keto.

Besides keto, I believe that intermittent fasting is also a big part of this. I basically will do 20-hour fasts. I have a cup of bone broth midway through.

By doing this, that leaves me about 20 net carbs for dinner. I don’t eat all the carbs in that setting. I seem to go between 8-12 for the day so this really helps too.

Important to note here that I stagger my fasting days to keep my body guessing and not letting it adapt to anything.

Hack yourself and find out what works. But I am dropping pounds so something is right.

My Wellness?

Hopefully you are taking my adventures and using them for your journey as well. My whole point of doing this was to present what I am doing and hopefully others will be able to take from that. I am not a doctor and I advise you check with your’s. I am just saying what works for me.


Another big week for me as I blew past the 90-pound mark and now am down about 93 pounds since May. I am beyond happy.

My next stop is 100 pounds! Let me say that again, 100 pounds.

Got some great yoga sessions in this week besides hacking my meals. This train is rolling and I beg you to jump onboard!

Your Wellness?

For those of you who don’t know, I wanted to prove this wasn’t a fluke so I started helping another ex pro wrestler with his journey. His name is Pete and he is located in Indiana. He lives in an assistance-living facility so it isn’t easy for him. Since then, a couple of other wrestlers and fighters have joined in. As always, consult with a doctor before doing any sort of health journey.

Besides Pete, I am also getting another former pro wrestler get going, his name is Joe and a former fighter, Bryen, as he recovers from hip replacement and works on getting back in shape. Recently I have jumped in with a successful real estate person who is on her own quest to get healthy.

I know I said I was going to cap it there, but I took on one more person. His name is Sean and he has a music company. I really want to prove that this can work for anyone.

Another solid week for Pete! He is now reporting down 68 pounds. This is huge because he is doing it with only diet.

Pete’s next goal is to continue to push his steps on a daily basis. For the longest time he was stuck on 2,000 steps a day. He is now pushing to get at least 3,000 as he looks to grow to 5,000.

Pete is still figuring out the fasting with bone broth. We are working on getting at least a 16-hour stretch for fasting. We talk daily and will get the timing down this week.

He is doing fantastic on his journey though and I am very proud of him.

Joe is another former pro wrestler who I met out on tour. Joe is from the deep south so he comes with that southern mindset and had to retrain himself on eating.

He is about a pound away from seeing a weight that he last saw as a teenager. He is eating a dirty keto diet and is trying to find some fitness routines he can do around all his wrestling injuries.

Joe has lost weight to the point of getting new clothes. He wants to bust through the remaining pounds in the next couple of weeks and is deadly focused on it.

Bryen has bounced back. He had a lot of stress going on so after dropping some pounds he gained some back. But, he is happy to report he has not only lost the pounds again, being down about 16 in three weeks, but he is also down two pants sizes.

Also, Ms Real Estate has come to the party with a 7.5 weight loss after just two weeks. Fantastic!

She is still learning her way around a keto kitchen. This is the first time that she has stuck to the program and I get messages about where to buy Shirataki noodles and I love it. She is finding her way and succeeding. I see some great things for her with wellness.

She is also getting more confident with her online postings for her business. She is really winning.

In an effort to try another non, pro athlete I am helping Sean get his wellness going too. We had an intro call last Monday so this will be the first Monday that I check in on him. I am looking for some great results from Sean because he doesn’t come an athletic background. Sean has a music company so this will be a whole new challenge.

Sean has a big opportunity to crush it.

Keto Meal Hacks

I want to talk about breakfast for a minute here. I have been making some crazy egg scrambles lately. They are really filling and low carb.

I have been using three eggs scrambled with a bit of heavy cream, adding spinach, chorizo, jalapeños, cheddar and mushrooms. Then I top with a little salsa, sour cream and guac.

This is basically my brunch on Sunday and will keep me running til dinner. Fantastic and really low carb.
