Welcome to the Diabetes Army Wellness Newsletter. The real deal from a former pro wrestler who lives with type 2 diabetes. In an effort to reverse my diabetes I am using exercise and a keto diet. These are my adventures.

We are changing up the format a little this week. We will now jump right into diabetes and keto and leave the journey further down.

Volume 2 Number 10
So I saw both highs are lows again last week but honestly I am not shocked. I am in the middle of negotiating a huge contract for our company and have been working monster hours.
Some days I found my numbers had gone higher than usual, then other times I went days without taking any insulin at all.
Again, I want to express how stress can absolutely factor into how your body reacts. It can absolutely play a role in your health.
This week I did go back to doing longer fasts. I will discuss that more in the keto section.
Spent some time this week spreading the word on diabetes. I was a guest on a podcast and I also posted on a couple forum boards. In my opinion the more awareness we can create on diabetes the better.
As I continue to reduce my carbs, my diabetes continues to get better. This is a very simple play.
On another front, big news coming for smart watches. Folks are reporting that Apple’s next version of the Apple Watch will have a continues glucose monitor in it. And, apparently it will be done without blood sampling via an optical sensor. This would be huge.
Apparently this will be done with the Android as well.
Of course there would need to be tests, tests and more tests done and then approval would be needed so this should be very thorough by the time it gets released so we will have to stay tuned.
And, a reminder, always do everything with your doctor.
Spent last week expanding my fasts to go with keto. Usually I like to skip breakfast so those are easy. I did two 40-hour fasts. One was from Sunday after dinner until Tuesday at lunch. Then repeated after dinner Tuesday.
This meant I added in a keto lunch on Thursday. I went with zero-carb bread and tuna salad. Haven’t had that in eons and it was delicious. That also meant lunch and dinner on Friday as well.
My old regiment was to do a lot of 20-hour fasts but I felt that my body was responding and they weren’t being effective. It seems like this way worked a lot better.
The other thing I did this week was work in a lot more keto-friendly veggies. I find I love buttery asparagus dusted with parmesan cheese. Who knew?
Finally want to remind you that some proteins will have a strange effect on your glucose. I love wings and there are no carbs in mine yet I sometimes get a raise in my glucose levels as the protein takes longer to break down and can bring it up hours after I have eaten the wings.
If I eat later at night, I notice that I have higher levels in the morning. At first I thought this strange but remember that different things drive your glucose levels even if they are keto.
Hopefully you are taking my adventures and using them for your journey as well. My whole point of doing this was to present what I am doing and hopefully others will be able to take from that. I am not a doctor and I advise you check with your’s. I am just saying what works for me.

What a week it was. Another four pounds gonewith my fasting regime. I am now down 97 pounds. 100 pounds is around the corner.
For me, fasting isn’t difficult at all. As a matter of fact, I feel fantastic on the second day. I really want to try a third day at one point as I feel really good.
Going to do a couple of more long fasts this coming week. Not sure I will drop another four pounds as my status quo seems to be to drop and stay for a week or two so we will see if that changes at all.
One thing I have had to do is go back to some smaller clothing. My dress pants are huge and, in full disclosure, my underwear was falling down underneath them. Luckily I had saved some stuff as I was going up with the hope that I would come back down.

For those of you who don’t know, I wanted to prove this wasn’t a fluke so I started helping another ex pro wrestler with his journey. His name is Pete and he is located in Indiana. He lives in an assistance-living facility so it isn’t easy for him. Since then, a couple of other wrestlers and fighters have joined in. As always, consult with a doctor before doing any sort of health journey.
Besides Pete, I am also getting another former pro wrestler get going, his name is Joe and a former fighter, Bryen, as he recovers from hip replacement and works on getting back in shape. Recently I have jumped in with a successful real estate person who is on her own quest to get healthy.
I know I said I was going to cap it there, but I took on one more person. His name is Sean and he has a music company. I really want to prove that this can work for anyone.
Pete learned last week that the body gains weight during the day. He weighed himself one night and found himself up three pounds. I told him it was because he normally weighs in the morning.
On Friday he did a morning weigh and had knocked a couple of the pounds off again.
Pete is going to join me this week on my fasting routine. That means he is going to do two 40-hour fasts with me and I know he is going have amazing results with it.
His challenge is going to be not having breakfast as he has that daily while I just drink coffee. I can’t wait to see how next week is going to look with him.
Joe is another former pro wrestler who I met out on tour. Joe is from the deep south so he comes with that southern mindset and had to retrain himself on eating.
Time to celebrate with Joe. He has broken the 200-pound mark for the first time since high school. He said, actually grade 11.
Now Joe’s goals are reset. He wants to get to 185. His first stop will be 195 and he will move on from there.
Bryen checked is still down 18 pounds. But what is interesting is that he has had a couple of stressful weeks. Because of that he hasn’t lost any weight.
I explained to him that this is okay because everyone has to realize that life happens. It would be great if we could all just lose weight and life is perfect. That is rarely the case. We will be talking this week.
Ms Real Estate came to the party with another pound lost. She is now down 10.5 pounds in less than a month. I am so proud of her.
Last week I told her that if we can just get nine pounds down that would be a huge success. Well she has blown right past that and she is on quite a run.
In an effort to try another non, pro athlete I am helping Sean get his wellness going too. Checking in with him after two weeks now, he is down 3.5 pounds.
Sean is still finding his feet and experimenting with different foods but it is starting to come together. Looking forward to the next couple of weeks with him.

Keto Meal Hacks
People have been asking me about my food pics a lot and wanting to know how I construct them. The only problem is that I never make them exactly the same way every time. But I can lay down the basics here and you can adjust to your taste. My taste is crazy hot, so some of you will want to tame down.
Been getting a lot of feedback on my keto pizza so let’s go!
I have been using Cut Da Carb flatbreads to make mine. I use a half of sheet so that is only 4.5 carbs for my crust.
First of all I spray a pan then put the flatbread on it. I then put a little oil on the flatbread. On top of that I add cayenne (remember, I like it hot but you can choose to skip this). From there I add a couple of table spoons of Rao’s sauce. Next comes the mozzarella which you can add to taste. I then put olives, prosciutto, pepperoni, mushrooms, jalapeños and any other low-carb topping I am in the mood for. Have fun with it.
I bake this beast up at 375 in the oven for about 12 minutes. The crust will get crisp on the outside areas.
