Diabetes Army Wellness

Welcome to the Diabetes Army Wellness Newsletter. The real deal from a former pro wrestler who lives with type 2 diabetes. In an effort to reverse my diabetes I am using exercise and a keto diet. These are my adventures.

Please remember, I am not a doctor so please check with your doctor before doing anything related to diabetes. This is what works for me.

We are changing up the format a little this week. We will now jump right into diabetes and keto and leave the journey further down.

On another note, I have not done the podcast in the past couple of weeks because of work but will be back at it this week. They are always under 10 minutes so perfect for the shower or while you are brushing your teeth! Diabetes Army Rebuild on all your favorite channels.

This week we talk about 100 pounds, vaccines shots and more!

Volume 2 Number 11

Starting this week in California, diabetics will be qualified to get the Covid vaccine. Now we realize there are a number of debates about it, but the fact is we are at the point where you can get it if you want it.

From where I sit, I am in. Because of my wrestling background, I had abused my body for years. I figure, even with the reports of side effects it will be a walk in the park for me.

So how did I decide on this?

Quite frankly, I don’t want to risk my health. There have been numerous reports of the effects of Covid on diabetics. Many of these reports talk about the diabetic deaths in a short time after entering the hospital. And I am not rolling the dice. It is that simple.

The way I see it, I have lived a very full life. I have traveled the world and performed in front of thousands and thousands of people. There is absolutely no way, I am going to allow Covid to bring me to my knees. Absolutely not!

Make your own decision but make a a smart one. Make sure you do your own research and decide what is best for you. There is no way I am going to tell you what to do but I am telling you what I am up to.

And, a reminder, always do everything with your doctor.

Did more experimenting or should I say Dia Hacking last week with keto. The week before I started into doing the longer fasts of 40 hours. I did two of them and the rest stayed keto.

With that in mind, I went to three 40-hour fasts last week instead of two. I wanted to see if they would adjust the results.

In the end, it was good but I feel that doing two will be just fine for me. I can combine a 20-hour in there no problem and will probably do that this week.

The days that I do eat, I don’t get anywhere near my 20 net carbs as it is only one or two meals. The hard part is not going crazy and eating everything in sight coming off the longer fast.

Couple of things I noticed, one is that I feel great while doing it. The second is everything tastes more robust. Flavors seem a lot more bold and that is both fun and interesting.

Oh, and did I mention I hit the 100-pounds down mark? Amazing!

My Wellness?

Hopefully you are taking my adventures and using them for your journey as well. My whole point of doing this was to present what I am doing and hopefully others will be able to take from that. I am not a doctor and I advise you check with your doc. I am just saying what works for me.

I got up one morning in the middle of my second fast this week and there it was. . .100 pounds down on the scale. I was so shocked I had to read it again. 100 pounds lost since May of last year!

I knew this day would come but I was really stunned. Into the shower I went and let it sink in. I smiled and enjoyed the moment. Well I enjoyed it for about two minutes then set a new goal.

During this journey I always said that at 100 pounds I would go out and celebrate. Maybe get a deep-dish pizza or head up to Dan Tana’s in West Hollywood. But the fact is, I didn’t do anything except get more focused.

At this point I don’t really have any sort of a craving for anything like that. I like the foods I eat now and they aren’t the priority of what they were even a year ago. I feel great and I love it.

Your Wellness?

For those of you who don’t know, I wanted to prove this wasn’t a fluke so I started helping another ex pro wrestler with his journey. His name is Pete and he is located in Indiana. He lives in an assistance-living facility so it isn’t easy for him. Since then, a couple of other wrestlers and fighters have joined in. As always, consult with a doctor before doing any sort of health journey.

Besides Pete, I am also getting another former pro wrestler get going, his name is Joe and a former fighter, Bryen, as he recovers from hip replacement and works on getting back in shape. Recently I have jumped in with a successful real estate person who is on her own quest to get healthy.

I know I said I was going to cap it there, but I took on one more person. His name is Sean and he has a music company. I really want to prove that this can work for anyone.

Pete jumped into my fasting routine this week. We knocked out the two 40-hour fasts like nothing. We touched base nightly and he did great. His steps continued to climb and he had a lot of energy.

After the second fast, Pete weighed himself down a total of 80 pounds. What a fantastic job. Then as the eating portion came back into play he gained a few pounds back. At that point he was pissed and wanted to do a five-day fast. I stopped him on that one.

Over the past number of months I have been telling him to write down everything he is eating but he had stopped doing that. The problem is that I had nowhere to go with tweaking his food as we didn’t have a diary.

We made the adjustment for Pete to log every meal now. He has also been informed that, although he has had two shots, he is confined to his room for two weeks as they must have had a large outbreak in his facility.

Pete and I will be doing two 40-hour fasts this week.

Joe is another former pro wrestler who I met out on tour. Joe is from the deep south so he comes with that southern mindset and had to retrain himself on eating.

The victories keep coming for Joe as well. He is now at 197. If you remember his big goal was to beat 200. He blew past that and is now saying his clothes are big. Those are great problems to have.

Joe is well on his way to the 185 mark which is his goal. He is another who has added bone broth to his way of eating.

Bryen checked is still down 20 pounds and stressed out. Life is causing him havoc right now but I told him not to let it mess with his health.

And he has done a great job with that. He is staying as focused as he can be. He said that he has been mostly strict but every now and again he will have a cider or a small serving of potatoes but otherwise on the game. I told him just make this work for you.

Ms Real Estate had another successful week and clocked a total of 12.5 pounds during her first month. Like everyone I know, she wanted way more but I also reminded her that over 10 months at this clip that would be 120 pounds!!! Huge. . .so congrats to her and looking forward to many more wins in her future.

In an effort to try another non, pro athlete I am helping Sean get his wellness going too.

Sean is discovering a whole new way of eating. He is now happy to report he is down 7.5 pounds on his new journey.

With him it is discovering what he can and can’t eat. I had told him about my adventures to Five Guys Burgers and he tried it and loved it. It is funny because you can eat at a lot of places if you just adjust how your food is served and he is discovering this. Looking forward to big things from Sean as his body adapts in the future.

We will continue to track and I will bring you all the progress. If you have any questions please dm me on my IG or Facebook page.

Keto Meal Hacks

People have been asking me about my food pics a lot and wanting to know how I construct them. The only problem is that I never make them exactly the same way every time. But I can lay down the basics here and you can adjust to your taste. My taste is crazy hot, so some of you will want to tame down.

Lot of comments on my tuna sandwich that I had posted last week so let’s run with that.

I take a can of tuna in water and drain it. I add mayo to it and I like it wet so you can adjust to whatever way you like it. To the combination in the bowl, I add jalapeños, a small about on onions, some cayenne pepper and also black pepper.

I then butter some keto bread and put the concoction it. On top of that I had a slice or two of extra sharp cheddar and add another slice of keto bread. Now I sometimes will put a lettuce leaf on it as well. You could also through in a tomato slice on top too. I didn’t last week but have in the past.

FYI I also make these open faced. When I do I put a tomato slice on top then the cheddar and stick it under the broiler to make a tuna melt. No broiler in my office so make it a sandwich instead.

Try it and enjoy!
