Diabetes Army Wellness Newsletter

Welcome to the Diabetes Army Wellness Newsletter. The real deal from a former pro wrestler who lives with type 2 diabetes. In an effort to reverse my diabetes I am using exercise, intermittent fasting and a keto diet. These are my adventures.

Please remember, I am not a doctor so please check with your doctor before doing anything related to diabetes. This is what works for me.

Here you will see the results from my Dia Hacking myself. I am trying to see which foods have the smallest effect on insulin. The lower the better.

The Diabetes Army Rebuild podcast is back. They are always under 10 minutes so perfect for the shower or while you are brushing your teeth! Diabetes Army Rebuild on all your favorite channels.

Finally, I pack a lot of info into this every week. Lot to read. I suggest you print it and enjoy it over a coffee or tea.

This week we talk about insulin, keto readings, recipes and more!

Volume 2 Number 15

I got my second Covid shot last week. I was waiting and waiting for some kind of side effect to hit me but there was nothing there. And I didn’t feel a thing getting it. I got the first one in my right shoulder and the second one in the left. That is just me. . .you have to decide for yourself.

I am still doing two 40-hour fasts a week. Then I do a 18 hour later in the week.

This week I went about three straight days without insulin. When I go into my doctor at the start of May, I am going to ask him to come off of it. At this point it is just the morning time that it looks like I will need it. I wonder if I can replace it with more Glucophage? We will find out.

In the past my high glucose readings would top out at about 220-240. Now a high reading is 160. Dramatic change.

The other thing I have noticed with cutting out sugar and carbs is that if I get a cut on my leg, it heals a lot faster. In the past it would seem like it would linger forever. Now if I get a cut it heals quickly. Yet another reason to dump carbs.

So I had to upgrade my meter this week and it turned out it was a cluster. In a long, crazy story, I ended up with no test strips for a number of days. Without accountability I got off the keto tracks.

Funny thing is that it took a couple of days to get back in line once they arrived. Finally I fell into place but I had to work on it.

This week I am making adjustments. So I am working hard to eliminate sweetners from my coffee on the days that I fast. I have just started going cold turkey so this week we will see how the measurements come out without them on fast days.

As well, am also cutting out the little side things like keto cookies, keto ice cream etc. We will see if it makes a difference.

The other thing I did last week is replace my base for baked tacos and even brunch, when I eat it, on a cheddar round. The secret is to make sure it is sharp cheddar but you will save yourself a number of carbs by doing this.

The other adjustment I made last week was to put a tablespoon of butter into my evening bone broth on the days I fast. Makes it taste delicious and doesn’t knock me out of ketosis. Plus it kills hunger.

My Wellness?

Hopefully you are taking my adventures and using them for your journey as well. My whole point of doing this was to present what I am doing and hopefully others will be able to take from that. I am not a doctor and I advise you check with your doc. I am just saying what works for me.

I lost a couple of more pounds last week and I seriously need to buy some new clothes. It is really getting ridiculous. My pants are so big they are looking like clown pants. It is really time.

Besides that I had a great week of workouts. I haven’t been back to the gym yet but still doing DDP Yoga at home. I try to get between four to six workouts in a week but sometimes life happens. Feels so good to get this done.

Since I have had both shots, I am trying to get out on my days off and get more steps in too. Life is starting to come back and I am loving it.

Your Wellness?

For those of you who don’t know, I wanted to prove this wasn’t a fluke so I started helping another ex pro wrestler with his journey. His name is Pete and he is located in Indiana. He lives in an assistance-living facility so it isn’t easy for him. Since then, a couple of other wrestlers and fighters have joined in. As always, consult with a doctor before doing any sort of health journey.

Besides Pete, I am also getting another former pro wrestler get going, his name is Joe and a successful real estate person who is on her own quest to get healthy.

Pete dropped just one pound this week. I think this is great as it puts him down a total of 96 pounds. He had been on a fast clip but we knew it wouldn’t last. At one point he was going to slow down.

He is right on track though. He is getting his steps in . Pete is at 3,000 a day and I am trying to get him to 4,000. The problem is he gets stuck on a couch in the lobby and needs to change his thought process on it to get him active again.

Pete mirrors my fasting program. This is a home run for him. He is almost to 100!

Joe is another former pro wrestler whom I met out on tour. Joe is from the deep south so he comes with that southern mindset and had to retrain himself on eating.

Great news from Joe this week. He grabbed the bull by the horns and sat down on his nutrition and is happy to report his weight has leveled off.

And by leveling off, we mean at 194. He is really happy with that as he was swinging wildly as he was letting his diet get offtrack. Now he is fine and back into his routine.

Joe’s ultimate NEW goal is 185. I have a feeling he will blow past that.

Ms Real Estate’s success continues. She had slowed down last week so we made some adjustments.

I suggested that she try and fast just two days a week. And I don’t mean the long ones that I do but something that would be easy for her.

With that said, we set up two 16-hour fasts a week. She jumped right in and we were off to the races.

Well she is happy to report that this worked and jump started her. She is now down 20.5 pounds.

We will see what her results are this week and take a look of any sort of adjustments we need to make.

I am looking for the next person who needs some help. If this might be you then feel free to DM my on either Instagram or Facebook.

All I ask is that you are seriously ready to make some changes and stick to the program. This is designed to get you started and we can stick with it for a few weeks until I know you are on the road.

If you are looking to manage your type 2 diabetes, pre diabetes or just want to get healthy and drop some pounds let me know. You will check in weekly and we will monitor you.

This works and I can’t wait for the next success story.

We will continue to track and I will bring you all the progress. If you have any questions please dm me on my IG or Facebook page.

Keto Meal Hacks

I love tuna melts so here is a keto version I have come up with. It is much like the ones I used to enjoy but just without the bread.

I mix tuna, mayo, jalapeño peppers, cayenne pepper and black pepper in a bowl and mix it up.
Then I add just a little tomato on top and smother in cheddar.

In another bowl I put lettuce leafs.

Throw the tuna bowl in the microwave and heat it up. When done, scoop it onto the lettuce and enjoy.

Try it and enjoy!
